Federal investigators are suppose to start their investigation today searching for the cause of the mine explosion responsible for the death of 29 workers. As the investigation begins rescuers are searching for the bodies of other workers still in the mine.
The Massy Energy Company, based in Richmond, Virginia has had a number of violations. Don Blankenship, the company's CEO defended the company and denied accusations that profits come before safety at the mine.
"Authorities" stated, high levels of methane gas "may have" played a role in the explosion responsible for the death of 29 workers. Records indicate Massey has been cited and fined for problems with the venting system that appears to have allowed combustible dust to build up.
Joe Manchin, West Virginia Gov. called for a moment of silence, Monday at 3:30 pm in memory of the victims of the explosion. Bob McDonnell, Virginia's Gov, asked Virginians to join the moment of silence, Monday, for their West Virginia neighbors.
